What is the Flexnet Publisher 'RightsId' parameter for?

Summary

There is a section in Flexnet Publisher (FNP) Programming and Reference Guide for Trusted Storage (TS) defining a ?Rightsid type? for Composite Transactions (Chapter 10 of Version 11.10)

Synopsis

There is a section in Flexnet Publisher (FNP) Programming and Reference Guide for Trusted Storage (TS) defining a ?Rightsid type? for Composite Transactions (Chapter 10 of Version 11.10) ?

RightsId type - The type of RightsId that follows, as defined by the server.

RightsId - The id allocated by the server to allow it to associate this activation with the appropriate database entries.

But it is not referenced elsewhere and does not appear in the FNO documentation at all ? what is for, as it doesn't seem to make any difference in testing.

Discussion

The RightsId Type was intended to allow different entitlement entities to be used as RightsId.
At the time, FNO purchase orders were made up of a number of line items, each of which had an id (LineId, say), and the order itself has an id (OrderId, say).

The user could activate the entire order using OrderId, or one item using LineId, so you'd use RightsIdType to say which.

FNO was developed not to use it in the end. However, it?s possible that other publisher servers are using so it cannot be removed.
