Changing license hostid

Hi,

We have four applications and three of them use ethernet address. The FlexNet server will be moved to Azure and we can therefore no longer use ethernet as authentication. The last application uses disk serial number. Therefore, I changed the license file for one of the three applications. Replaced ethernet address for disk serial number. After rereading the license file, I get the "invalid license key" error message. In the license file I changed the first line from "SERVER *server name* *Ethernet address*" to "SERVER *server name* DISK_SERIAL_NUM = *disk serial number*". Checked that it is the correct disk serial number with "lmhostid -vsn" in command prompt. The application where it works to use disk serial number has the line "SERVER this_host DISK_SERIAL_NUM = *disk serial number*. What can be the problem?

Hi @tdankertsen ,

The license files that are provided by software Producers are created for use only on the specified target systems.    In your example the licenses for 3 of the applications were created for use on the system having an ethernet address = *Ethernet address*.   This ethernet address  specified in the license file is not editable as license files are signed.  Any tampering of this field will invalidate the license.  If it were editable you could easily make many copies of the license files and run them on multiple machines resulting in an overuse scenario.  You will need to obtain new licenses from your software provider.

Thanks,

Jim
