Synopsis

Oracle discovery has been completed using a tnsnames.ora import and the Oracle Database Inventory has been run to bring in the inventory but on importing to FNMP the computers are discarded as they have no serial number.

Discussion

This is caused because tnsnames.ora only has basic hardware details e.g. device name, IP address etc and the Oracle Database inventory doesn't collect any hardware information. Therefore, if you only use tnsnames.ora and Oracle Database inventory there is no hardware information such as Serial number being collected.

Workaround

To resolve this issue, carry out a full hardware inventory on the Oracle machines using either an installed agent or using the Generate inventory remote task to obtain the serial number and other hardware information. Once this has been obtained, a compliance import should pull all the data together so that you can analyse the Oracle compliance position.
