Flexera Labs: FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications 3rd Party License Server Management

Summary

This article discusses FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications 3rd Party License Server Management.

Synopsis

FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications has always had market strength for management and reporting of FlexLM license servers, but has not been as strong in the area of managing 3rd party license servers (i.e. non FlexLM based license servers). This offering enables both operational management of 3rd party license servers (start/stop/status/rotate) and an optional capability using a rules based engine to generate CRL (Common Report Log) files from raw usage data generated by the 3rd party technologies.

Discussion

With the introduction of FNMEA agents version 5.x, the ability to develop custom plugins was added to FNMEA to allow support for license server technologies that are NOT covered out of the box. This capability however has not been widely used and there is very little existing documentation or examples available to demonstrate how to use it. This solution offering leverages this plugin capability and instead of developing a different plugin for each different 3rd party technology the solution here is a ?Generic? set of plugins to allow any 3rd party license servers to be registered with FNMEA.
