Cognos not working when SSL/HTTPS is configured

When accessing Cognos via the URL directly (https://<COGNOS_SERVER>:9300/bi) or by clicking on the Cognos reporting tab from FlexNet Manager for Engineering Applications web UI, the following error may appear if SSL/HTTPS is not configured.

If this error appears, try the steps below.

  1. Verify you are logged in as the admin user.
  2. Verify you have assigned the Cognos web administrator role to the admin user.
  3.  If you are still experiencing this error after verifying the steps above, check if the following URL is displayed: <Cognos install dir>\configuration\flexnet.properties file https://<ADMIN_SERVER_NAME>:8443
    1. If yes, stop Cognos and update the URL to http://<ADMIN_SERVER_NAME>8888
    2. Restart Cognos
