VMware infrastructure is required to link the VMs to the host and is the only way to inventory vCenter devices. You would then perform the regular inventory actions against the VMs.

Hi,
For vCenters, you will need to do both:
- Collect VMware infratructure,
as mentioned, to assign VMs to their hosts. - Collect hardware & software inventory
to account for the OS (usually Windows Server) the vCenter is installed on and other applications running on that same machine. That is only, if you're not getting these details from another source already, like SCCM or so.
Best regards,
Markward
