Unable to auto update FNMS Agent running on a beacon server

Hi Community,

we're running FNMS 2019 R1 including the latest hotfixes (v05) and also installed the latest Agent update package 2019 R1.2.  We've enabled the agent auto update feature in FNMS and all agents update as expected, except the agents on the beacons. The installation.log-msi on each beacon shows the following error msg:

MSI (s) (2C:7C) [00:27:29:795]: Product: FlexNet Inventory Agent -- The installation cannot proceed because the machine appears to already have the Inventory Beacon installed.

During the first beacon installation we've decided to install all components (beacon software & agent). A manual agent installation is unfortunately not an option, as all beacon settings will be deleted by the agent installer.

Looking forward to your ideas, how to update the beacon agent to the latest version via FNMS auto update.

Thanks and Best,

Dennis

(1) Solution

It is not going to be possible to use the auto upgrade for this. The agent installation is intentionally blocked on beacons, as installing the agent on a beacon will cause problems. The only time the agent components that are installed with the beacon would be updated, would be when the beacon itself is updated.

Upgrading your beacon will be required instead of installing and upgrading the agent.
Agents should not be installed on beacons, it breaks the beacon installation.

One further point in addition to the comments already made is that there is no need to install the agent on the beacon, as the beacon software already includes all the agent components as part of it. So as long as the beacon is installed, you will already implicitly have the agent installed - there is no need to point to attempting to separately install or upgrade the agent.
