Is there a way to create a license metric as combination of # core and GB RAM?

re and more vendors impose a new metric consisting of number of cores and GB RAM i.e. 8 core and/or 64GB RAM. The individual higher number dictates the licenses type or the amount of licenses required

Is there a way today in FNMS to map this ? If not, are there plans to implement such a metric ?

Hi,

There  is no out of the box way in FNMS. There was just a discussion going a bit in that  direction. Here is an idea:

  • As long as you can define a proper business logic, you should be able to translate it to code (e.g. SQL) and create a business import. The import could allocate machines to a "Core" or a "RAM" license.
  • The "Core" license could work using the "Core points" license type and a custom points rule set.
  • The "RAM" license could be a custom metric. Because this license type offers only a single consumption field, an additional report could be used, to make transparent how the consumption was calculated.

All together, this would be quite some work and definitely be a very specific use case. You should analyze if it's worth the effort at all.

Best regards,

Markward
