General Application Recognition Question

Hello,

I'm investigating a publisher (VistaSource) and no app details are returned in Installed or All Application reports and there is no Unrecognized Evidence.

Does this mean the publisher is not currently present in Flexera's ARL, or a wider issue around application recognition via the agent?

Thanks

@mark_robinson - If it is Windows, then it is a bit easier because you can look for Add/Remove entries (Installer Evidence) as well as EXE files for evidence.

The process would be the same, to look on the Evidence tab for a device known to have the software installed.

If you send a request to Flexera Support to add recognition for VistaSource products, they will likely ask you to also provide the Evidence that is needed to create the recognition rules in the ARL.  In this case, once you find the Installer/File Evidence that can be used to recognize the software, you can download the Unrecognized Evidence to Excel and include that in your Support Ticket to update the ARL.

hi @mark_robinson ,

are you trying to search using the publisher name in all applications and the evidences? Do you have a software from the mentioned publisher being used and is that device being inventoried? there might be multiple scenarios depending on the above inputs.

If you see that the Publisher mentioned is not in all applications list then its not available in ARL yet.

Regards,

Applications on Linux that are not installed with a package such as RPM become more difficult to identify because if there is no evidence in the Package Repository, you must rely on File Evidence.  This is typical of Freeware and Open Source software.

Have you configured your FlexNet Agent to capture File Evidence?

If yes, then your best bet is to find a server where you know that the software from VistaSource is installed, open up the Inventory Device details and then go to the Evidence tab to review the raw Installed and File Evidence to find evidence of that software package and build recognition rules in your Local Catalog to create a Recognized Application.

Thanks for the replies. Understood about Linux installs, but what if it's a Windows install?

Does Flexera currently have anything in the ARL for Vistasource, and if not, would an enhancement request be considered for its inclusion?
