Flexera will be bringing the Content libraries up to date for all products that were divested by IBM to HCL Technologies during the acquisition announced in 2019. This will mean that IBM products now owned by HCL Technologies will change to have ‘HCL Technologies’ as the publisher. The changes are expected to be released in the December ARL & SKU/PURL/Bundle libraries, scheduled for 12/24.

IBM to HCL Technologies Product Divestiture

Class 1

Customers should be prepared and take action

Change Summary

Flexera will be bringing the Content libraries up to date for all products that were divested by IBM to HCL Technologies during the acquisition announced in 2019. This will mean that IBM products now owned by HCL Technologies will change to have ‘HCL Technologies’ as the publisher. The changes are expected to be released in the December ARL & SKU/PURL/Bundle libraries, scheduled for 12/24.

Impact

This change will impact customers who have the divested HCL products installed in their enterprise or have configured licenses. Customers will notice that the publisher name for the products will change from IBM to HCL Technologies.

It is expected that the legacy IBM SKUs under which the HCL products were previously marketed will remain with IBM (no change). We are preparing to release few HCL SKUs for upcoming release.

It is also expected that bundles which contained IBM products divested to HCL will continue to contain the same applications, with updated publisher names, and the same licensing rules. However, those bundles which have ‘IBM’ in the name will be changed to ‘HCL Technologies’.

The impact to the product usage rights in the PURL is as follows:

  • HCL will be added to the list of publishers supported with specific PURL entries
  • As an independent publisher, HCL will maintain the usage rights for the products it has acquired from IBM.
  • From a technical/delivery perspective for on-premises customers, the HCL usage rights will be included in the downloaded IBM PURL file.

There are 103 software products in scope that will have the publisher name changed from IBM to HCL. These products include the following families:

  • AppScan
  • BigFix
  • Unica
  • Commerce
  • Portal
  • Notes
  • Domino
  • Connections

The spreadsheet IBM-HCL Product List.xlsx provides the full list of all the ARL products for which the publisher name will be renamed from IBM to ‘HCL Technologies’

Next Steps:

On-premises customers with IBM software divested to HCL Technologies need to make sure they update their ARL and SKU/PURL/Bundles cab to the latest build.

We are testing the implications for Recommended License Changes (RLC) and other configuration updates and will publish the results on Dec 18th

We tested the implications and there were no unexpected results observed. Kindly update to the latest builds of ARL, SKU and PURL to avoid undesired recommendations.

The publisher changes from IBM to HCL Technologies for relevant product families are now released and are available as part of ARL build # 2576 and onwards and SKU/PURL/Bundles build #472 and onwards.
