Today's businesses are under increasing pressure to operate in an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible way. The sustainability benefits are clear, from reducing costs and environmental impact to improving brand reputation and attracting customers who are increasingly conscious of environmental issues.

As a result, sustainability is fast becoming an essential element of business strategy, and this is particularly true in the field of information technology.

Sustainable IT refers to the practice of using technology in a way that is environmentally friendly and economically viable while also supporting a mix of on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure.

One of the critical challenges of sustainable IT is that it often requires a holistic approach, considering not only the technology itself but also the processes and practices surrounding it. This includes everything from the procurement of hardware and software to data management and software development to the operation and disposal of IT assets.

To understand the complexities of sustainable IT, it's essential to consider the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social, and governance (ESG).

Environmental sustainability involves reducing the impact of IT on the environment, for example, by using energy-efficient hardware and implementing virtualization and cloud computing to reduce the need for physical servers.

Social sustainability involves ensuring that technology is used in a way that benefits society, for example, by promoting digital inclusion and supporting the development of local communities.

Governance sustainability involves ensuring that technology is used in a way that is transparent, accountable, and in compliance with laws and regulations.

All this said, there is no easy solution or perfect insight. But a crucial step is surfacing available IT sustainability intelligence today to make it a decision factor alongside the usual IT decision factors (cost, compliance, usage, security, vulnerabilities, lifecycle, etc.).

That's why we're excited to announce our upcoming "Sustainable IT in a Hybrid Environment" webinar on February 14th, hosted by Flexera's Mark Bradley and Harrison Leachman and ITAM Review's AJ Witt. We will dive into the developing role of sustainability in the hybrid IT ecosystem and discuss critical topics such as building principles for sustainable development, identifying areas of focus for value delivery, and standard sustainability metrics.

Register now and gain valuable insights on how to make your IT operations more sustainable and environmentally friendly. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from industry experts and show "this great planet some love."
