Summary

How to generate a verbose log for the AdminStudio IDE and other tools

Synopsis

Sometimes you may need to or be asked to generate some verbose logs for AdminStudio, or other tools that are a part of AdminStudio. This article provides steps on how to generate these logs.

Discussion

To generate the debug logs please perform the following steps:

1: Ensure that AdminStudio and any AdminStudio tools are closed

2: Ensure you stop the AdminStudio host, you can stop it from the system tray

3: Once this is done set the following registry key:
[HKLM\Software\InstallShield\AdminStudio] DebugLogLevel="5" or

[HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\InstallShield\AdminStudio] DebugLogLevel="5"

4: After the key is set locate the existing logs and delete them. The logs are going to be located in the same directory as it?s respective .exe. For example the log for the Application manager (iscmide.exe) will be located by default in:

AdminStudio 11.5-2014:

[ProgramFilesFolder]AdminStudio\[ProductVersion]\ConfilctSolver

AdminStudio 2015 and Later:

[ProgramFilesFolder]AdminStudio\[ProductVersion]\Common

5: Once these are deleted please launch AdminStudio and go through the steps to reproduce the error, and once this is complete you can close AdminStudio and save out these logs

6: Once the logs are saved out, and you are finished troubleshooting you can set the DebugLogLevel back to 0

The most useful logs are usually the AdminStudio.log, AdminStudioHost.log, and ISCMIDE.log found by default in:

AdminStudio 11.5-2014:

[ProgramFilesFolder]AdminStudio\[ProductVersion]\ConfilctSolver

AdminStudio 2015 and Later:

[ProgramFilesFolder]AdminStudio\[ProductVersion]\Common
