alternative to repackager to track file and registry change ?

Hi,

it's sometimes overkill to use the repackager with snapshot to identify what is the file modified or what is the key changed on the registry when something has been changed on the options ...

Which third party product can you recommend for tracking some stuff ? i think about a real time monitoring piece with output on screen or in log files ...

i found http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx (Process monitor) but i think someone here may have something better to recommend

thanks in advance !

I often still use Repackager for that sort of thing because its output is all plain text files (easy to make use of and archive...and I have a VM snapshot with it ready to go, so it doesn't really take any time.) Process Monitor is also quite good and can be easy to use once you've added exclusions to filter out the junk. Anybody who wants to get great at using Process Monitor needs to watch the Microsoft Channel 9 videos that show you how to be awesome with it: http://channel9.msdn.com/Shows/Defrag-Tools/Defrag-Tools-3-Process-Monitor.

And I still like an old free tool named InstallWatch 2.5c, but it is only 32-bit. Their website hasn't existed in years, but a quick Google search shows a number of download sites where you can get it.
