Automated package testing on windows 10

Hi,

As MS has moved to win 10 servicing model or windows as a service , can you provide how to ascertain application compatibility on various win 10 OS e.g. 1809 , 1903 n so on.

Is there any standard feature available in AS 2019 enterprise edition ? What are future release plan tackling this issue ?

Also, by when can expect package support framework to be part of AS suite .

Thanks,

Amit

Hello Amit,

With Microsoft's Windows-as-a-service model, we quickly understood the importance of testing the Operating System compatibility of a give application against a specific version of Windows 10 - 1803, 1809 etc, and how this is going to be a continuous process for the Enterprises in the future. Therefore, one of the major features of AdminStudio 2019 was to provide the ability to test applications against specific version of Windows 10. We are focused on helping our customers to easily manage the continuous process of migrations to the latest version of Windows 10. As and how Microsoft releases a new version of  Windows 10, you will see the support for this new version will be immediately added in the subsequent release of AdminStudio. In the new release of AdminStudio which is coming out pretty soon, we are supporting the latest Windows 10 version - 1903.

Please refer to the release notes of AdminStudio 2019 for more details:

I would also recommend having a look at our webinar to understand how AdminStudio can help you lower the risk of ongoing Windows 10 migrations:

We have been continuously adding support for MSIX in AdminStudio right from its early days of launch. Today in AdminStudio, you can:

  • Asses the suitablility of an MSI package to be converted to MSIX, before the conversion itself. This will help you identify the right set of MSI packages to convert to MSIX successfully and save your time by not converting those MSI packages which are not recommended for conversion
  • Perform single and batch conversions of MSI and legacy setups (.exe) to MSIX
  • Digitally Sign MSIX packages
  • Automate MSIX suitability assessment and conversion using AdminStudio's PowerShell Cmdlets

So, support for MSIX has been one of our top priorities since its launch. You can expect the initial support for Package Support Framework  in AdminStudio Suite in the upcoming release.

Thanks

thanks for the information. I am really keen to understand when is next admin studio version will be released and whether it will have package support framework.

There is a service pack due out this month to address some bugs and get caught up with the latest Windows 10 (1909) and ConfigMan (1906) releases. However, PSF support is already present in the current release of AdminStudio (as part of the included InstallShield 2019 R2 release).

Besides supporting new windows releases as part of WaaS how about supporting new Office releases as well, since they will be on a even more accelerated cadence than Windows. One of the challenges even MS hasn't addressed in providing customers a technical comparison of one Office release to the next. A compatibility test in AdminStudio would be ideal
