Service Portal users cannot see VMs they own

A Service Portal user may be unable to view VMs they individually own. This issue depends on how the user was added to Commander and whether they were assigned an individual Service Portal role in addition to any organizational roles. This article explains why the issue occurs and how to resolve it.

• Adding users as organization members:
  • Typically, users are added from the Configure Organization wizard to ensure their role and quota are defined by organization membership. In this case, no individual role is assigned by default, but it can be added later.
  • If the Service Portal role assigned through the organization grants Show All Organization Services, users can view and interact with services owned by others in the same organization.
• Adding users as individuals:
  • Users can also be added from Configuration > Users and Roles, which allows the assignment of an individual Service Portal role without organization membership.
  • Scenarios for assigning an individual role include:
    • A user needs visibility across organizations without requiring an organizational role.
    • A user needs visibility across organizations and must also manage VMs within an organization; in this case, the user should be added to an organization first, then edited in Users and Roles to assign an individual role.

• All services in their organizations
• Services they own in their organizations
• Individually owned services

1. Navigate to Configuration > Users and Roles and select the user. Click Edit.
2. In the Role field, change from No individual role to an appropriate Service Portal role.
3. Click Save.
