Consumption for Microsoft SQL Server licenses with type "Microsoft Server Core" is calculated based on cores rather than threads for cloud virtual machines
Microsoft SQL Server Standard and Enterprise edition license consumption for cloud instance devices is incorrectly calculated based on the number of cores and the points rule set configured on the license, rather than the number of threads. This applies to licenses that are not enabled for BYOL.
This may result in calculated consumption being lower than it should be for affected licenses .
The fix for this issue corrects the calculation. After the fix is deployed, an increase in consumption for affected Microsoft SQL Server licenses may be observed.
