Determine whether the Advanced Compression option is used in Snow Inventory Oracle Scanner

This article explains how Snow Inventory Oracle Scanner determines whether the Advanced Compression option is being used.

Environment

• Snow Inventory - All supported versions
• Snow Inventory Oracle Scanner (SIOS) - All supported versions
• Snow License Manager (SLM) - All supported versions

How usage is determined

To determine whether the Advanced Compression option is being used, Snow Inventory Oracle Scanner checks for usage of the following:

• Advanced Row Compression*
• Advanced LOB Compression*
• Advanced LOB Deduplication*
• Data Guard Redo Transport Compression
• Data Pump Data Compression
• RMAN Backup Compression
• Heat Map
• Optimization for Flashback Data Archive History Tables

* SecureFiles (Compression and Deduplication) is checked by looking at the DBA_LOBS, DBA_LOB_PARTIONS, and DBA_LOB_SUBPARTIONS views. If objects are found that do not belong to SYSTEM, SYS, or SYSMAN, they are identified as used (used=true).

If any of the items above indicate that they have been used, the Advanced Compression option is considered activated. However, the first three items are not considered used if they are used only by system users.
