Capture Cloud (Web) Metering data in a Snowpack on Windows
Cloud Application Metering records user activity for web-based applications through a browser extension. In some troubleshooting scenarios, you may need to collect this web metering data within a Snowpack for review by Snow or Flexera Support.
This article describes how to generate browser activity and confirm that Cloud (Web) Metering data is included in a Snowpack for diagnostics and validation.
Perform the following steps on a Windows device where Cloud (Web) Application Metering is enabled:
1. Clear existing Cloud Metering data
Empty the following folders:
C:\ProgramData\SnowSoftware\Inventory\Agent\cloudmetering\extension-outputC:\Program Files\Snow Software\Inventory\Agent\data\web-meteringShow
2. Restart the Snow Inventory Agent
Restart the Snow Inventory Agent service to begin with a clean state.
3. Generate browser activity
Open a supported web browser and access relevant web applications. Continue browsing for several minutes to generate cloud application usage data.
4. Stop the agent before upload
Stop the Snow Inventory Agent to prevent the data from uploading prematurely.
5. Confirm .cryson files are retained locally
Check that the .cryson files exist in the folder:
C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Inventory\Agent\data\web-meteringShow
Their presence confirms that web metering data has been generated and retained.
6. Run an agent scan
Start the Snow Inventory Agent and manually run a scan to package the data.
7. Confirm web metering data is present in the Snowpack
Generate the Snowpack and verify it includes Cloud (Web) Metering data. Once confirmed, you can share the Snowpack with Snow or Flexera Support for analysis
The Snowpack contains web metering information suitable for troubleshooting and support analysis.
