Resolve Snow Update Service self-update failure caused by missing snowschema.version in srcsettings.json
The Snow Update Service self-update may fail when the srcsettings.json file is missing a valid snowschema.version.
This article outlines the process to manually update the service to resolve this issue.
Manual update procedure
- Create a full backup or server snapshot of the Snow Update Service server.
- Download the latest SUS client ZIP package from the Snow Update Service download portal:
https://updatesportal.snowsoftware.com/download/sus - Stop the SnowUpdate Windows service.
- Close the following applications:
- SUS client application
- SUS tray notification application
- Rename the existing installation folder:
C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Update Service
For example:C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Update Service.old - Create a new folder:
C:\Program Files\Snow Software\Snow Update Service - Extract and copy all files from the downloaded ZIP package into the new folder.
- Copy the following items from the previous installation folder into the new installation:
- The existing Resources folder
- The previous working
srcsettings.jsonfile - Allow Windows to merge or overwrite the files when prompted.
- Reopen the Snow Update Service application.
