FAQ: Removed / uninstalled software still visible in metering history (Metering history months and history cleanup)
Q: When setting the metering history months to 12 months and uninstalling an application, should the path to the executable be visible under the "Identified files" tab until the metering period has ended? Will this metering data always be visible if the metering history cleanup is not turned on?
A: When an application is uninstalled it will no longer be counted as installed when, for example, the metric is “based on installations”. However, the application is still shown on the computer as used during the metering period.
In the scenario above, where Photoshop CS6 has been used (but is uninstalled), it is highlighted with a orange background on the Computer Details page. The orange highlighting indicates that the application is not installed on the computer, but that the application was used during the metering period. This occurs either when the software is removed, or when the software is run from a network share or from removable media (USB memory stick).
The “metering history cleanup” setting ensures that any metering data which falls outside of the defined metering period is removed. If this setting is not enabled, no metering data is removed and so all historical data is available if required. Please note, however, that the volume of metering data stored will increase over time. To access the “metering history cleanup” setting, go to Snow Management and Configuration Center > Configuration > Basic Settings.
