Assign the Analytics Explorer role in Flexera One
Overview
The Analytics Explorer role in Flexera One provides advanced capabilities for creating, editing, and scheduling reports in Flexera Analytics (Cognos). This role is not automatically assigned; administrators must explicitly grant it by updating an existing role or creating a new one.
This article will provide step-by-step guidance on how to do so.
NOTE: You must have IT Asset Management (ITAM) Administrator privileges in Flexera One to assign or modify roles.
What the Analytics Explorer role allows
- Full access to Flexera Analytics dashboards.
- Ability to create custom reports and dashboards.
- Ability to schedule and share reports.
Steps to Assign Analytics Explorer Role
Option 1: Update an Existing Role
- Log in to Flexera One.
- Go to the IT Asset Accounts page (Administration -> IT Asset Management Settings -> IT Asset Accounts)
- Navigate to the Roles tab.
- Select Edit Role
of the role you want to update (for example, IT Asset Manager).
- Under the section Business Reporting Portal, locate Privileges.
- Select the Analytics Explorer.
- Save changes.
Option 2: Create a New Role
- Go to IT Asset Accounts page (Administration -> IT Asset Management Settings -> IT Asset Accounts)
- Navigate to the Roles tab.
- Select Create Role.
- Enter a role name, such as “Analytics Explorer”.
- Under the section Business Reporting Portal, locate Privileges and enable:
- Analytics Explorer
- Assign the role to the appropriate users:
- On the same page, navigate to All Accounts tab.
- Search for the user and open their account details
- Under Permissions, add the new role

If the permission doesn’t appear right away in Flexera Analytics, sign out of Flexera One, clear your browser cache, and sign back in. This forces the role to sync.
